This post is based on Jim Collins: Good to Great. This past week one of his quotes stuck with me, so I went and found it on his website:
"You are a bus driver. The bus, your company, is at a standstill, and it’s your job to get it going. You have to decide where you're going, how you're going to get there, and who's going with you."
This article was brought about through a coaching conversation with a friend. The conversation centered on her current job and the fact that the role did not fit her passion and her current position was just an escape from another position. What to do? Well, at the end of the conversation I remembered this Jim Collins quote -> taking it from another position that she is one of the people on the bus... and therefore the question is: is she on the right bus? From our conversation it was determined that she wasn't and she came up with an action plan to start the ball rolling in the right direction.
I think it is really important that people and organizations really make sure that employees are firstly the right fit for the company and also that they are actively engaged in their work. So maybe it is more important that companies hire for fit and train for skills.
