I have developed a good habit over the past few year and that is to take some time over the first week of the new year to take stock of my life and really think about what the next 3 years are going to look like. As someone who is an organized planner my list has 3 'buckets' - financial, work and personal. I am not going into the details but these give me something to strive for and if something on my list doesn't happen, this is fine! All part of the adventure.
However, I do want to touch on one item on my list. This is to give myself time to settle back into North American life. I am usually a person that has a ton of stuff on the go; however, right now I feel like I am exploring new territory. This is due to a number of things including changing industries and countries and managing expectations.
So, I had a conversation with my boss. We began our conversation around trying to figure out the root of the problem and then came up with a few strategies so that I feel more supported over the next couple of months.
The thing that strikes me the most is that if we didn't have this open conversation and I didn't ask for help - I would be fumbling around 'in the dark' just trying to figure stuff out. This is exceptionally non-productive and really doesn't add value to myself or my company!
If you are struggling, it is okay to admit it! Ask for help! You might be surprise what happens!
