You will have to excuse the next few paragraphs because they are a bit of a personal rant. My rant stems from the simple fact that organizations need to open up their eyes and realistically take stock of where they are instead of trying to go with the latest and greatest change management project just because it is the ‘in’ thing to do!
Organizational Development or Transformation within a lot of companies today sometimes consists of an entire department or a few consultants working together to achieve valuable and realistic change. This is a great strategy because there is actually a focused change effort and therefore sustainable changes are a product of specific projects.
However, this scenario is achieved in mature organizations that can handle the sophisticated change management processes and ideas. What happens when you are in an organization that is not mature enough to handle this? Change fails to be sustainable! You can do all the fancy project plans, seminars, education and presentations in the world but that doesn’t change the fact that you have completely missed the boat! What is that you ask?
It is simply PROCESS REENGINEERING.
Identify what your key processes are and figure out how they link up and get them functioning! Do the basics before adding in the complex! Don’t get me wrong – if you want to hire me to do this job I am quite available, but if you don’t want to listen to sound consulting advice…. it might be advisable for you to start looking for a new job.
End of Rant.
